Early warning helped a healthcare facility replace a failing motor before surgery schedules, patient care, and operating conditions were affected

A critical motor began showing abnormal behaviour
Shortly after installation, the MOVUS platform detected abnormal behaviour in a motor supplying conditioned air to an operating room.
The system flagged the anomaly as a potential early sign of failure, giving the facility’s maintenance team time to investigate before the issue escalated. Without that warning, the motor may have failed unexpectedly during operating hours, forcing emergency response and possible surgery rescheduling.
This timing was critical. A fault in supporting infrastructure can be easy to underestimate because it sits behind the scenes. But in a surgical environment, supporting assets like chillers, motors, and airflow systems directly affect whether operating rooms can continue functioning safely.
MOVUS gave the team early visibility into a problem that could have remained hidden until the failure became operationally visible. By then, the impact may already have reached patients, clinical teams, and scheduled procedures.
Turning early detection into overnight intervention
Acting on the early warning, the surgery centre scheduled an overnight replacement for the failing motor. This allowed the facility to resolve the issue before it disrupted operating hours. Instead of reacting to a failure in the middle of the surgical schedule, the maintenance team was able to intervene in a controlled window with minimal operational disruption.
Further inspection of the failed motor confirmed the MOVUS findings, revealing early signs of degradation that may have gone unnoticed without continuous monitoring. The result was a cleaner operational outcome without the scramble, a cancelled list, and it avoided a disruption to patient care.
