A Proactive Approach to Operations
A large food production and manufacturing company operating in regional NSW engaged MOVUS as part of a broader leadership initiative to improve operational maturity across its site.
Rather than responding to a failure or incident, the focus was proactive. The team was looking for greater visibility into asset health, increased confidence in maintenance decisions, and a more structured approach to managing operational risk, without adding the complexity to day-to-day operations. As part of this approach, the team prioritised the After Cooler Blower Motor which plays a critical role in maintaining stable downstream processing conditions. While not always the most visible asset on site, its reliability directly affects product quality and unplanned downtime risk.
In many operations, assets like this are maintained on fixed schedules or checked reactively. Subtle degradation can go unnoticed until it escalates into disruption.
What MOVUS Detected
Shortly after the deployment of FitMachine sensors on the After Cooler Blower Motor, PlantOS identified a clear change in vibration behaviour of the motor drive-end bearing, despite no previously reported issues from operations or maintenance teams. The data showed a rapid increase in overall vibration over a short period, consistent with lubrication degradation.
These patterns indicated early-stage bearing distress, detected well before functional failure or any impact on production.
The Operational Outcome
With early insight into the developing issue, the site team was able to act decisively an at the right time. Maintenance was planned and carried out during normal operations, with a simple corrective action: bearing lubrication. There was no need for an emergency response, no disruption to production, and no secondary damage to the asset.
The key value was not just the fix itself, but the confidence to act at the right time.
- More than 6 hours of unplanned downtime avoided
- Reduced operational risk trough early intervention
- Greater control over maintenance processes/planning
- Improved confidence in asset health across the site.
Following this result, the customer expanded monitoring to 15 sensors across 10 assets, embedding MOVUS as part of everyday operational decision-making rather than using it as a reactive troubleshooting took. This site-level success also supported a broader rollout decision over 3 more sites.
Why This Matters for Decision Makers
This success story highlights a shift in how manufacturers are using monitoring technology. Not to instrument everything or chase alerts, but to enable earlier action, better planning, and calmer operations. The result is improved throughput, reduced operational risk, and greater control over cost and sustainability. Teams can act earlier, plan more effectively, and minimise disruption to production without adding operational complexity.
