Brisbane Food Manufacturer Saves $300K with MOVUS FitMachine Implementation

Food and Beverage
QLD, Australia

Early visibility across critical assets helped the site reduce unplanned downtime and build confidence in proactive maintenance

For food and beverage manufacturers, production reliability has a direct impact on output, cost, and customer commitments.

At a Brisbane food manufacturing plant with seven production lines, unplanned downtime was a significant operational risk. The site was focused on improving overall equipment effectiveness and needed a better way to understand the condition of critical production assets before faults became failures.

The plant’s critical equipment included pumps, motors, and fan units operating across the production environment. If these assets failed unexpectedly, the result could be lengthy downtime, lost throughput, emergency repairs, and disruption across the broader plant.

The challenge was not simply monitoring equipment. It was giving the maintenance team earlier insight into asset behaviour so they could act before production was interrupted.

Building visibility without disrupting production

To improve asset awareness, the site deployed MOVUS monitoring technology across critical assets. The system was installed in under three hours, with no tools required and no operational downtime for the plant. This allowed the team to begin accessing real-time condition data quickly, without interrupting production activity.

Reliability improvements are often difficult to introduce when production windows are tight and downtime is already costly. A fast, low-disruption deployment gave the team a practical way to strengthen asset visibility without creating another operational burden.

Once in place, MOVUS began tracking asset behaviour and helping the team identify subtle changes before they escalated.

Detecting deterioration before failure

Within months of deployment, MOVUS detected changes in the operating behaviour of a critical asset. The shift was an early sign of deterioration and a precursor to what could have become a severe equipment failure.

The early warning gave the maintenance team time to investigate and address the issue proactively, avoiding unplanned downtime that would have significantly impacted production. This turned the event from a potential breakdown into a planned maintenance response.

Instead of waiting for the asset to fail, the site had enough warning to understand that something was changing, prioritise the right asset, and intervene before production was disrupted. As the Site Reliability Coordinator later explained: “In this first instance, downtime saved was close to eight hours.” In another instance, the team saved three hours by detecting cavitation in an oil pump before it caused a major fryer blockage.

Proving the value of proactive maintenance

The initial intervention helped the Brisbane plant avoid an estimated $300,000 AUD in lost production. From an initial investment of less than $10,000, the deployment delivered a rapid return by enabling targeted maintenance actions, improving asset reliability, optimising operational efficiency, and reducing costs.

The customer also reported broader operational benefits, including earlier fault detection, reduced reliance on emergency repairs and hazardous inspections, and stronger long-term asset lifecycle management through richer condition insights.

For the site, the result was not just one avoided failure. It was a shift in how the team could approach maintenance across critical production assets.

MOVUS helped the plant:

Detect subtle condition changes before critical failure
Avoid close to eight hours of downtime in one early event
Identify cavitation in an oil pump before a major fryer blockage
Reduce emergency repair pressure
Improve visibility across critical equipment
Support safer, more targeted maintenance decisions
Avoid an estimated $300,000 AUD in lost production

The site later renewed its subscription to continue monitoring critical equipment, citing the value of 24/7 monitoring and early alerts in minimising unplanned downtime at the Brisbane plant.
